The JakeWalk

I must say that I am a very spoiled little girl. Honestly. Who gets to eat out like I do? Not including boyfriend (thought his taste in restaurants is amazing), my uncles spoiled me rotten my entire life. They’re to blame.

The JakeWalk. Boyfriend’s cook left to become the executive chef at The JakeWalk a month or two ago. He invited us to come over. Boyfriend and I were looking at the menu, but R told us that he was just going to cook for us. All we had to order was drinks. I ordered the sparkling flight. i was given a glass of red, white, and bubbly. so so so good! and the portion size lasted me the entire dinner. which was a lot of food. so here we go. watermelon mint julep salad. i don’t particularly like mint juleps. pretty sure it’s the mint, not the liquor. knob creek bourbon, lime, mint, salt. you should make this at home. seriously. it is so good, filling, and refreshing! definitely a great starter when it’s ridiculously hot out. spicy cucumbers. this was a nice paired with the watermelon salad. it was salty and spicy which played well with the watermelon being sweet and a little sour. not sure how long they marinated the cucumbers for, but they really picked up the taste of the vinaigrette. the crushed red pepper added a little flavor to each bite if it stuck to some of the cucumber pieces. english pea crostini. this was my absolute favorite. well my tied favorite at least. yes you could totally make this at home, but things always taste better when it’s being made and served to you. so simple. mashed up fresh peas and sprinkles of cheese on really crispy crostini. perfect finger food. not greasy at all and very refreshing; light even. fried pork terrine. so so good. omgosh. again, this played on sweet and salty. the pork terrine was nice and crispy and the compote added a nice, smooth texture. so good. boyfriend loved it. summer corn. boyfriend told me this was sort of like a succotash, but with corn. either way, i do love my veggies! chicken liver pate. uh yeah. this made the tie for best thing ever at this place along with the crostini. i’ve seen pate made from scratch before, but it didn’t come out nearly as delicious at this one. there were times when all i wanted was a huge slather of pate on my bread without the pickled watermelon rind. and when my bread was piled high with pate, it still was not enough. my heart and arteries probably hate me. but seriously, so worth it. this is going on my “last meal” list. beer braised brisket sandwich. okay maybe there are three things that are a tie. I just couldn’t get enough of this great food from The JakeWalk. The bread was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside; just like good, home made bread should be. the pickled cucumbers were great and i actually stole some of boyfriend’s off of his plate. i try being all stealth about it, but it never works. i always get caught. the brisket had so much flavor and just melted in your mouth. absolutely amazing. on top of that was horseradish aioli. there aren’t any words that can describe how much my mouth was dancing and singing. seriously. best brisket sandwich i have ever had.

after the plates were cleared away, i ordered an old fashioned. one of the best i’ve ever had. it rivals PDT’s, but that is an entirely different story to begin with. boyfriend had a hefewiezen with dinner and another mixed drink. I forget what it was exactly.

If you ever get a chance to go to Carroll Gardens or you’re just in the hood, stop by The JakeWalk. the prices will not hurt your wallet, they have outdoor seating and beautiful interiors, and the food is just great. go. now. no seriously.
